Meet the Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0: a 4.0 Android media player that would like to dethrone the Apple iPod Touch as the go to device for media enthusiasts. While there are other similar devices available, the need for one seems to have dropped off as smartphones with these capabilities are being adopted by more people. This device though, is more than just an MP3 or video player as it incorporates the Android OS and has access to the Android Market. It is essentially everything a phone is, without being a phone, unless of course you download an app that will enable you to use Wi-Fi for making voice calls. A quick look at the specs shows it is no slouch in capable performance either:
4.0 Super LCD Screen WVGA (800 x 480) resolution
8GB Memory built in with microSD support up to 32GB
512MB Ram
1GHz Single Core CPU
Rear & Front facing cameras (Rear 3.2MP & Front VGA)
1200mAh Battery (38hr music/5hr video playback)
Android 2.3.5 OS (Gingerbread)
Is this media player enough to entice the masses away from the Apple iPod Touch, with it having Android, a removable battery, microSd expansion slot and an MSRP of $229? I am going to say, NO, but it will give another option for people who like the larger file support and who already use the Android platform.
Also available is a 5.0 version of the Samsung Galaxy Media Player that brings a meatier 2500mAh battery and a MSRP of $269.
